The main peak of Maoer Mountain is 2141.5 meters above sea level, which is the highest mountain in South China. It is often called “the first of the Five Ridges and the peak of South China”. It is also the source of the Lijiang River and the Zijiang River, connecting the two major water systems of the Yangtze River and the Pearl River.
The scenic area is full of forests, with trees intertwined and twisted, a primitive forest scenery, and a precious tree species left over from the Ice Age – hemlock.
From April to June every year, azaleas bloom all over the mountains, forming a sea of flowers, which looks like clouds and rosy clouds from a distance. In addition to natural scenery, Maoer Mountain also has red attractions such as Laoshanjie, which the Red Army crossed during the Long March, and the crash site of an American plane during World War II.
It is recommended to take the scenic bus directly to the top of Maoer Mountain. It takes about 1 hour to drive. There will be several important scenic spots on the way, such as Laoshanjie and Tieshan Park. After getting off the bus, you still need to walk a section of the hiking trail to reach the top. The sunset, sunrise and sea of clouds here are all beautiful. There are hotels and inns on the top of the mountain. You can stay here for one night so that you can enjoy the beautiful sunrise the next morning.
Maoer Mountain Scenic Area is a nature reserve and hiking is prohibited.
